One free day each month for a charity

The charity sector is close to my heart, so I set aside one day each month to help a charity or community organisation move an important piece of work forward.

  • Frequency 1 day/month
  • Cost Free
  • Best fit Small scope
  • Format Remote first

A practical way to give something back

I have worked in the charity sector before, and it is something I still care about deeply. I know how often worthwhile organisations are balancing meaningful work against tight budgets, limited time, and more digital friction than they should have to carry.

Into Film was the first charity I worked for. After that, I worked at JustGiving on projects for Alzheimer's Research UK, Comic Relief, Diabetes UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, Shelter, and WaterAid UK, among many others. That work stays with me.

This page is my way of making space for that. Each month I set aside one free day for a charity or community organisation that could benefit from practical help. The goal is simple: solve one real problem well and leave the team in a better place than before.

Good, practical problems for one focused day

Websites, forms, and journeys

Small improvements to the parts of your site people actually rely on: clearer calls to action, easier forms, better accessibility, or fixing the friction that is getting in the way.

  • Accessibility and usability fixes
  • Form and content improvements
  • Performance and digital tidy-ups

Scoping, advice, and next steps

Sometimes the most helpful thing is not writing code straight away. I can help you understand the problem, assess your options, and turn a fuzzy need into a clearer next step.

  • Project scoping and prioritisation
  • Sanity-checking an approach
  • Reviewing developer or supplier proposals

Small workflow improvements

A single day works well for the annoying little things that keep costing time: repetitive admin, manual content updates, or a useful fix that never quite gets picked up.

  • Lightweight automation ideas
  • Content and publishing workflow fixes
  • Debugging and delivery unblockers

Where one day can make the biggest difference

Strong fit

  • A charity or community organisation with a clear digital problem to solve.
  • A small, practical piece of work with a defined outcome.
  • Something that will save staff or volunteers time, reduce friction, or improve access.
  • A team that can explain the current problem, the desired outcome, and any timing constraints.

Better suited to a bigger engagement

  • A full website rebuild or broad redesign programme.
  • An open-ended stream of delivery work with no clear boundary.
  • Anything that needs urgent operational support or constant availability.
  • Projects where the best next step is formal procurement or a larger implementation partner.

If your need falls into this second group, it can still be worth getting in touch. I may be able to help you scope it or clarify what to ask for next.

Simple, focused, and practical

Step 1

Tell me what needs attention

Use the contact form and outline the organisation, the problem you want solved, and what a good outcome would look like.

Step 2

I choose one request each month

I review requests and pick one piece of work that is both useful and realistically scoped for a focused day.

Step 3

We focus on something concrete

The aim is a practical result: a fix, a recommendation, a scoped plan, or a meaningful unblocker that helps your team move forward.

Tell me about your charity or community organisation

Tell me about your organisation, the problem you want solved, why it matters, and what a good outcome would look like. If it feels like a good fit for that day, I will get back to you and take it from there.
